We have tried many different ways of installing the drivers and setting up the nf file.
#INTEL GMA 4500 MDH HOW TO#
(I also have the "Beginning Ubuntu Linux" book.) I love Ubuntu, but sometimes I just cannot figure out how to get some things running. Neither my son nor I understand much of the terminology on your forums, although I have been using Ubuntu for some years and have read quite a bit. (We set up the computer to boot off of either of two hard drives - either in Windows XP or Ubuntu 9.10, karmic.) We know the graphics card works because it works in Windows. Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (3 Gigs RAM) Graphics Card: nVidia G92, GeForce 8800 GT Nor will it even allow for the "normal" "Visual Effects" in the "Appearance Preferences." (It comes up with the error: "Desktop effects could not be enabled," after it tries to find the driver.) The computer will not run Blender and other graphics programs. He works on animation and graphics of several kinds, and the graphics programs cannot run without a fully functioning graphics card. The resolution is good, but the graphics card is not fully functioning. My son and I are having trouble getting the graphics card to work properly in his computer. Can anyone help me make the generic kernel stable again, I need it to use my 3G dongle. Somehow I've managed to get a different configuration between the two kernels, the output of cat /proc/mtrr is quite different between the two. The graphics now work fine under the sickboy kernel, but under the generic kernel the screen flickers occasionally and eventually goes blank forcing me to reboot.
I have two kernels installed on my netbook, sickboy kernel, customised for my Acer Aspire One, and the standard generic kernel shipped with Jaunty. I thought I had followed the instructions correctly but something has gone wrong.

I did install an upgrade to adobe flash player today, but other posts make it sound like that is irrelevant. I am running 9.04 and version 7 of Vmware with a Windows XP guest on a Dell Inspiron 1505 Intel GMA X4500HD that is less than 1 month old. I don't play games - just trying to get some work done.

I have implemented the series of steps in the 'safe' method, but the system crashed again just a few minutes ago. I've read a lot of posts and yours was the best at telling me what to do.
Thanks for this awesomeee program, works fine.I am very much a novice, but my system rebooting multiple times per day is absolutely driving me crazy.
